Becoming strategic partners from 2021, ATAD Steel Structure Corporation and Kanematsu Corporation are supporting each other and diversifying cooperation fields. With the goal of developing and expanding overseas market, both constantly introduce and promote the company's image in many aspects.
Kanematsu Vietnam along with Mr. Hiroyuki Kurosawa of Japan Daily Metal - a prestigious iron and steel news in Japan, had a visit to ATAD Dong Nai factory in April 2025 and the article introducing ATAD Dong Nai Phase 3 factory was published. Thereby, the capability and position of ATAD in the field of steel structures are introduced more widely to overseas customers and partners.
Kanematsu would like to quote the article as below:
“Local Report /Kanematsu-invested ATAD Steel Structure Corporation in Vietnam
Phase 3 Factory started operation and expanded the total production capacity to 200, 000MT/year”
ATAD Steel Structure, Vietnam's leading steel structure company in which Kanematsu has invested and is an equity-method affiliate, celebrated its 20th anniversary last year and launched a third plant in Dong Nai Province. The annual production capacity of steel structures, including the plant in Long An Province, has expanded to nearly 200,000 tons, and is currently booming for large-scale projects in Vietnam. We interviewed ATAD on site. (Dong Nai Province, Vietnam = Hiroyuki Kurosawa)
ATAD was founded in 2004 and started operations the following year at the Long An plant in the west of Ho Chi Minh City. In 2017, the company also set up a factory in Dong Nai in the northeast. Compared to the 60,000 square-meter Long An Plant, the Dong Nai Plant is more than double the size of 150,000 square meters. In addition to the expansion of scale, the company is also shifting its products from PEB (pre-engineered building) and conventional steel structure to advanced steel structures.
Originally, ATAD focused on large-scale projects that could be differentiated by technology. The company has a track record of various projects such as airports, train stations, steel bridges, factories, warehouse commercial buildings etc.. and the largest project currently is Long Thanh International Airport, which is currently under construction in Dong Nai Province, which uses 40,000 tons of steel. ATAD has received an order in a consortium with a Turkish company and some of Vietnamese General Contractors and is responsible for supplying steel structure and main roofing structure.
One of the co-founders, Nguyen Le Anh Tuan, who is in charge of management as general director along with Chairman Huynh Ngoc Dong, explains the significance of focusing on the airport, saying, "The airport is a symbol of steel structures, a field that shows our expertise, a place where we can demonstrate the design, manufacture and assembly technologies we have developed and accumulated."
Nguyen Le Anh Tuan - General Director
ATAD has delivered materials to Da Nang International Airport, Phu Quoc International Airport, Tan Son Nhat International Airport Terminal 3, which has just been finished, and overseas Wattay International Airport, which Hazama Ando Corporation worked on in Vientiane, Laos as an ODA project for Japan.
Even for the experienced ATAD, this time Long Thanh Airport is a special case. The terminal central roof is a truss structure that is rare in the world, and its weight is 5,300 tons. Not only it is large, but it also requires advanced technology such as making balance, and ATAD is in charge of its design, fabrication, and assembly. The supply of parts, materials and the lifting construction have just been successfully completed, and Mr. Tuan is enthusiastic, saying, "Lifting Roofing steel structure has been successfully completed, this is an important achievement for world-class company like ATAD."
Supporting this major project is ATAD Dong Nai's third plant, which began operations in April last year. It was expanded to support long-term mega projects such as Long Thanh International Airport, and introduced Italian-made machining, fusing, welding, and bending equipment. ATAD has established a system to build larger steel structures. The premises of the third plant are crowded with many products, and welding work continues in some places even during the lunch break.
In addition to Vietnam, the company has also been acquiring overseas projects in Africa, Europe, and the United States, and has reached its previous target of 50% each of domestic and overseas sales ratios. Mr. Tuan said, "Vietnam has become a global factory for international companies with investment from foreign companies, and there are many projects for these factories and local companies, such as highways and airports. Although there is uncertainty about the U.S. tariff policy, I think the government will handle it well."
In Vietnam, where there are many start-up companies, there are not many companies with a history of 20 years. Looking ahead to the next 10 years, Mr. Tuan says, "We will aim for sustainable and stable growth." Through the partnership with Kanematsu, the company intends to refine its background as a global company in areas such as overseas market development, procurement of steel products, and governance, while firmly establishing a firm foothold as a leading company in steel structures in Vietnam.
